📰 Industry Watch

Coachella Sold Out!

Coachella Weekend 1 and 2 reportedly sold out within 4 days of the lineup announcement. You can now join the waitlist for tickets at Coachella.com. This was surprising given recent trends — last year W1 eventually sold out, but W2 did not. The quick sellout may point to the “Bieber effect” (Justin Bieber is headlining, a particularly strong year for electronic music and just a really solid lineup overall. Whether this is a genuine sellout or a marketing tactic to build hype before releasing more tickets later remains to be seen.

If you didnt snag tickets, I wouldn’t stress. Historically, many fans default on payment plans or adjust their plans closer to the festival, which often leads to tickets reappearing — both through official channels and on the secondary market. The weeks leading up to Coachella are often fruitful for buyers, though scams are a major risk (I’ll do a deep dive on how to avoid scams in a later issue).

Last bit about Coachella: I found a very interesting lineup poster breakdown by genre, gender, and more that’s worth a look (Preview Below): Reddit link

Limewire Acquires Fyre Fest

Limewire recently acquired the Fyre Festival IP in an eBay auction for $245,300. Reportedly, Ryan Reynolds was among the serious bidders.

Included in the sale:

Brand Name & Registered Trademarks

Official Social Media Accounts (including verified Instagram)

Marketing Assets (photos, videos, ad archives, graphic templates)

Domains & Caribbean Festival Location Option (with government backing)

Behind-the-Scenes Content & Documentary Footage

Email & SMS Lists

Artist & Talent Relationships

Extensive Media Coverage Archive

Access to Core Team (optional)

The most valuable piece may well be the customer data — Fyre’s original audience fits squarely into Limewire’s target demographic. That alone could justify the price tag.

Unfortunately, if you were an original Fyre ticket buyer, there’s likely little recourse to opt out of your data being resold. Now it’s a matter of seeing how Limewire leverages their infamous brand acquisition.
