📰 Industry Watch

U.S. Supreme Court Rejects Live Nation Appeal
The court refused to hear Live Nation’s bid to force a consumer antitrust lawsuit into arbitration, allowing the 2022 class action by L.A. concertgoers to proceed in federal court. The case accuses Live Nation and Ticketmaster of monopolizing ticketing and inflating prices. Lower courts found the company’s arbitration agreements “unconscionable” under California law — a major setback that could open the door for broader scrutiny of ticketing power.

🎤 Drake v. UMG — Case Dismissed

Drake sued Universal Music Group for defamation over Kendrick Lamar’s “Not Like Us,” arguing UMG promoted and profited from a track that endangered him and his family. A federal judge dismissed the case, ruling the lyrics were protected artistic expression and not factual claims. Drake’s team plans to appeal, but for now the decision reinforces broad First Amendment protection for diss tracks and creative rivalry in hip-hop.

💿 Warner Music’s “Marvel” Vision

Warner Music Group CEO Robert Kyncl told Bloomberg he wants WMG to be the “Marvel of music” — expanding artist stories into films, series, and immersive content. He sees streaming price hikes and AI licensing wars as a chance to make music more valuable again. For fans, expect more high-production artist documentaries, cross-media collabs, and official AI-powered experiences aimed at keeping you in the WMG universe longer.
